Sólo se aburre la gente aburrida.

Only boring people get bored.

Sex Education, 2nd season.

I was born in La Rambla (Cordoba, Spain), better known as Potters’ Village, in 1988; and since then I have only got bored with things I have been told to do without asking me if I liked them. Sometimes I get bored of myself as well, that’s normal, I spend too much time with myself.

Never stop doing something you like because of shame or fear.

My father started working on a potter’s wheel at the age of 10. I have been in touch with pottery since I was born, also thanks to my mother, who used to be a ceramics painter. But I spent my childhood painting. It was not what most boys used to do, but I was always enrolling in drawing lessons instead of football clubs.

Estudia, para no acabar en la alfarería

Study a degree, not to end up as a potter.

There are around 60 ceramics workshops in La Rambla (with only 7400 inhabitants), and at the end of 20th century anyone could count up to 150 of them. Many teenagers, as me, had a ceramics factory as the family business; and we used to spend the holidays, some weekends or afternoons there helping our parents. At that moment, pottery for me was rather an industrial work, on assembly line, not really creative, and that’s why it did not actually captivate me. The general idea back in that time was that pottery was for those who did not want to study and have a professional career.

Thus, when it was time for decisions, I chose to study Translation and Interpreting based on how much I loved languages, reading and traveling.

Sometimes it is necessary to get away in order to see something better.

After several years living in Cordoba, Poland, Alicante and Tunisia and visiting many European countries, I came back to La Rambla with the view of a person who had realized the value and the potential that his hometown and his parents’ profession have. At the same time I worked in different jobs related with languages and translation (which I keep doing nowadays), I approached again to my father’s studio. He had changed his work, his material and even some ceramics techniques, but he kept his most pure essence: the artisanal work on the potter’s wheel. The students of Artistic ceramics degree from the Arts School Dionisio Ortiz in Cordoba used to do their internship in my studio, and I discovered a whole new world and this time it did catch me completely: I spent my free time in the studio, I founded the ceramics association Colectivo Cerámico de La Rambla together with my father and other ceramicist friends, I studied ceramics at the school and I became part of the Organizing Comittee of the local ceramics fair ENBARRO.

Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.

Winston Churchill

And it was in 2018 when the moment of walking from failure to failure arrived, as well as the moment of hating all the motivational quotes as the previous one. It was the moment I decided to start my way in the real creative/artistic/artisanal business world. I launched my project Bowtery and many good and not-so-good things have happened since then.

After three years devoted to the artistic and commercial part of ceramics, in 2021 I got a post as a public teacher of ceramics in Arts Schools, where I can add my passion for teaching to the one for creating.
